Working from a selection of Winter foliage, you will learn how to compose, draw and paint from observation, using pen and watercolour, to create a botanical painting that reflects an understanding of the subject whilst capturing the beauty of the plants.Karen Green, a botanical artist, will ease you into the workshop with some playful drawing exercises. Leading on from this, she will support you in creating a detailed observational drawing of the plants, demonstrating the ‘stippling’ technique in pen to show shadow. With one to one support and class demonstrations, you will experiment with watercolour techniques and accurate colour mixing to paint the foliage and leave with a finished painting and greater confidence in watercolours.All materials provided. Suitable for beginners and those with experience.
About Karen:Karen works as a Botanical Artist, painting flowers and fruits and vegetables. She paints with intricate detail, retaining the technical accuracy of the plant but placing emphasis on the aesthetics and artistry. She explores themes of femininity, loss and healing through the botany and life cycle of plants; flower language and their use in medicine, folk lore and religion.
